Meet the Blogger

Stephanie Taboada

latina phding blogger

First generation American Ecuadorean born and raised in New York. I come from a family of engineers, so, naturally, I became an engineer.

The purpose of this blog is to share the knowledge I have learned over the years so that current and future generations of Hispanic students become aware of the benefits and opportunities that exist in STEM fields.

About me

Education

I have a Ph.D., Bachelor of Engineering, and Master of Science degrees in Chemical Engineering.

I also have two advanced graduate certificates: interdisciplinary sciences and science communication.

Work Experience

I am currently an Engineering Professor. My research focuses on developing and optimizing catalysts for producing renewable natural gas (RNG). RNG can substitute fossil natural gas. The benefit of RNG is that it reduces the release of carbon into the atmosphere.

Before research, I worked in industry for four years as a consultant in the oil and gas sector. I also worked as a quality engineer in the manufacturing industry.

Career Goals

My career goal is to continue climbing the academic career ladder while researching clean energy and providing technical consulting to industry. Eventually, I would like to startup my own company.

In parallel, I advocate for increased representation of the Hispanic community within STEM by publishing literature in STEM education and within my technical area of expertise.

Stephanie has been awarded over $80,000 in Fellowships & Scholarships
